Summer is in full swing and with it come some unwanted pests.
Whether or not you are out gardening or simply trying to enjoy your outdoor space, chances are these days you are not alone (and we aren’t talking about your friends and family)
Mosquitoes are out in full swing as well. Before you reach for the thick layer of bug spray, here are a few natural ways to deter these pesky buggers from your garden and patio.
Did you know that there are lot of plants you can plant in your garden and in planters that will help keep mosquitoes away?
Many strong scented herbs and plants are among their least favourite and include:
- Lemon Balm
- Lemon Thyme
- Lemon Scented Geraniums
Try planting up your own ‘Bug-Off’ Planter by including a few of the above plants in a beautiful planter. *Take care to plant mint separately as it can quickly take over a planter. Other perennials like Rosemary, Lemongrass and Lavender can be transplanted into your garden or separate planters when they start to outgrow their current pot.
Another great and beautiful option to help keep the bugs at bay is to make some DIY lumineers.
All you need is:
- Mason Jars
- Sliced Lemon & Lime
- Fresh Spring of Lavender & Lemon Balm Leaf
- Lavender & Lemon Essential Oils
In each mason jar, place a slice of lemon and lime along with your lavender and lemon balm leaf.
Add 4-5 drops of each essential oil.
Finish off with a floating candle and enjoy a beautifully scented candle that will help keep the pesky mosquitoes away from your outdoor space.
