Department Manager – Garden Supplies - Oak Bay

We’re looking for an organized and hands-on retail leader with a passion for gardening, guest service, and operational excellence. As the Department Manager for Garden Supplies, you’ll oversee the daily operations of the department — ensuring efficient inventory flow, exceptional guest experiences, and well-presented, fully stocked displays that reflect the GARDENWORKS brand.

This is a dynamic, fast-paced role ideal for someone who loves retail operations, teamwork, and helping guests find the right tools and supplies to grow successfully. Full-time (40hrs), wage $23.00 – 25.00/hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily department operations to ensure smooth inventory movement from receiving to sales floor.
  • Oversee inventory management, including stock organization, replenishment, and rotation to maintain optimal on-hand levels.
  • Deliver exceptional guest service, offering friendly and knowledgeable assistance to every visitor.
  • Collaborate with management and merchandising teams to ensure product presentation aligns with seasonal themes and brand standards.
  • Monitor sales performance and stock levels, communicating restocking needs and product trends to management.
  • Train and support team members in guest service, product knowledge, and department standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace for both team members and guests.
  • Assist with promotional displays and in-store events to highlight key seasonal items and create an inspiring shopping experience.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3 years of retail experience, ideally in garden supplies, hardware, or home improvement.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations and inventory management.
  • Excellent guest service and communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in managing priorities.
  • Comfortable using POS and inventory systems, as well as Microsoft Excel.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and seasonal peaks as required
  • Physically able to perform tasks involving lifting (up to 30 lbs), standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Valid Forklift and Pesticide Dispensing certification—or willingness to complete paid training.
