Welcome to GardenWorks™ Penticton…

Scott Austin - Nursery Manager

Scott has lived and gardened in the South Okanagan all of his life.  He dispenses advice through his weekly newspaper column in the Penticton Herald and on “Garden Talk” the open line radio show he’s hosted for over 25 years.  He recently published his first book "Sun, Sand and Sagebrush-Lessons from an Okanagan Garden."  Scott has been nursery manager since 1988.

Carly Esson - Store Manager

Carly lives in Summerland with her husband and two young children. She's been a part of the team for 15 years.

Kerry Sutley - Giftware and Flower Shop Manager

Responsible for giftware buying and merchandising, Kerry makes the garden centre look fabulous with the garden and home décor products she sources out and the displays she creates. She is in her 18th year with our company.

Jackie Snair - Shadehouse Supervisor

It may seem like Jackie is everywhere, and she usually is! You’ll find her in the greenhouse giving advice on houseplants, implementing new displays of ceramic pots and helping customers with plant questions outside in the nursery and shadehouse. She’s a graduate of the horticulture program at the Kingstec campus of Nova Scotia Community College in Kentville and she’s in her 11th year with our company.

Elaine Stephens - Seed Expert

Elaine is a fountain of knowledge on all aspects of gardening, especially if it grows from a seed. She’s been dispensing information to gardeners since 1998 at our garden centre, and for years before that at local garden centres.

Mike Rivest - Pond Expert

If you’re building a pond, or already have one, Mike is our resident water gardening enthusiast and expert. Whether it’s plants, pumps, filters or fish he can help. You’ll find him in the nursery too. Mike has been part of our team since 1992.

Aaron Galbraith - Rose Expert

Aaron’s knowledge of trees, shrubs and perennials is excellent. If it’s roses you’re interested in, he’s the man to ask. Aaron has been with us since 2005.

Scott Goll - Plant Expert

Scott has been in the horticulture business for over 15 years. He has worked for a landscape company, as well as two large garden centres in the Lower Mainland. He lives in Keremeos with his wife and young son, where he grows garlic with great passion.

Lani Morris - Plant Expert

Lani has an extensive background in both wholesale and retail nursery operations. She’s a wealth of knowledge on using trees, shrubs and perennials in the garden and is responsible for the beautiful displays in the nursery.

Florist Team - Flower Shop

Whether you're looking for an elegant centerpiece or a dozen red roses, our florist team will exceed your expectations. We have been awarded the Master Florist designation by FTD, one of only two flower shops in the valley to be honoured.

Locally Grown

Out at our growing facility we currently produce five main crops: shade trees, roses, perennials and grasses, annuals and shrubs. Our shade trees are grown in a state of the art "pot in pot" system which allows us to harvest the tree at any time of the year. We grow mainly 1 ½" to 2" caliper trees that will make quite a statement when planted at your home.

Virtually all of our roses come from Trout Creek. Started in late February in a temperature controlled house, they are rooted, then hardened off before being put outside to finish off. Then as space allows we bring them in perfect shape to our garden centre ready to continue there journey to your garden.

locally_grown_fparaA large number of our perennials and grasses are transplanted from plugs starting in late February right through until early April. Again in the climate controlled house until well
rooted and hardened off, then transported outside to be finished off. Some of these will be outside in our large shade house, custom built to protect shade loving species like Hosta and Hydrangea from the blazing Okanagan sun.

Our annual crop in Trout Creek consists of hanging baskets, planters and larger annuals and vegetables. Usually the greenhouses are bursting from March right through the season. Limited by space, we cannot grow everything we sell, but our locally grown production is increasing in this crop as space and time allows.

Shrub production is probably our smallest crop. Here we pot up bare root plants and also containerized plants that need shifting into a bigger pot. This allows the plants at GardenWorks to always be growing and thriving, and often it is a matter of weeks before the shrubs make it back to the garden centre, bigger, stronger, healthier and again, ready for your garden.

Turf's Up Blog

16Nov 2017

I love how the ornamental grasses look fabulous all winter long because even when it snows it’s such a dry and light snow that it never crushes the stems.  At least that’s what one of our grass suppliers always told us.  He so enjoys coming up to the valley in the winter with his camera […]
