Exemplar Horticulture, Ltd, growers of Smart Plants™ and WaterSmart™ Perennials, Ornamental Grasses and Edibles, are a proudly family-owned, Canadian company. We grow our wonderful plants in Abbotsford, located in the heart of British Columbia’s fertile Fraser Valley. We’ve been growing these great plants for Canadian gardeners for over 30 years! Our staff are family to us, and they hail from the local area, largely from Abbotsford and Mission. Wherever possible, we source our raw materials like young plants and potting soil from other Canadian companies.

Look for the Smart Plants™ or WaterSmart™ logo on your plant tags for your assurance of hardy, Canadian-grown plants, and thank you for supporting us and our families.

Kato's Nursery

Kato’s Nursery was established in 1952 by Masagoro & Tamako Kato in Abbotsford,
primarily producing fresh fruits and vegetables for the local market. In the mid to late 60s, the nursery began re-wholesaling berry plants to other BC farms. George, the eldest son, and his wife Sarah expanded the nursery to include ground covers, conifers, and shrubs.

George and Sarah eventually took over the nursery. In the 90s, the focus shifted to in-house propagation and growing. In 2007, George and Sarah’s son, Michael, purchased the nursery and now manages daily operations. Currently, the nursery’s stock includes conifers, ornamental trees, perennials, shrubs, vines, small fruits, fruit trees, and grasses. Our product is sourced locally & globally. Most of our products remain in BC, but we also ship to many provinces in Canada.

Meadowlands Horticultural Inc.

Meadowlands Horticultural Inc. Established in 1997 by Gordon and Cynthia Wong, Meadowlands Horticultural Inc. strives to be a leading full-service wholesale grower of exceptional plant material, exclusively serving Independent Garden Centers.
Located in Burnaby, our facility grows various bedding annuals, vegetables, hanging baskets, planters, and our exclusive lines: Tried & True® Garden Collection, Tried & True Organic Edibles, and Taste of the Season® Organics. All Tried & True® plants undergo thorough testing both in our greenhouse and home gardens; only those that meet our rigorous standards receive the Tried & True® label.
